12V LED Strip Lights

Before buying 12V LED light strips, you need to know if the 12V LED strip is the best choice for your project.

12V LED strip lights were the first low voltage LED strip lights on the market. It has been very popular since it was born. The 12V LED strip, with both indoor and outdoor waterproof versions, has a deep influence on our everyday lives. Let's take a look at its advantages and disadvantages, the scope of use, etc., to decide whether it is the best strip light for your project. Articles for 12V LED Strip Lights

12V LED strip light features

1. Safety. 12V is the safe voltage for human body, and it can be used for applications where safety requirements are critical.

2. Long lifetime. 12V light strip circuits operate on DC low voltage. The low voltage operation makes LEDs service lifetime longer.

3. No flicker. Since the low voltage LED strip light uses DC voltage, it avoids the stroboscopic phenomenon that occurs in the use of AC light products.

4. Power supply easy to find on the market. 12V power supply is very common in the market. Note that you need to use 12VDC power supply or power adapter. 12V LED strip light cannot be directly connected to 110V power.

12V LED strip lights mostly use SMD LED 2835 and 5050. Which type of LED is more suitable for you?

2835 VS 3528

Shape. SMD 2835 is smaller than SMD 5050. SMD 2835 has a thinner brace bracket than 5050. Because of its small size and flexibility for design, it is widely used in LED lighting products. 2835 LED employs chip reverse packaging technology that provides better heat dissipation, while the 5050 LED uses conventional packaging technology.

Chips inside. SMD 2835 LED is generally monochromatic LED that consists of a single chip package, such as for single color white, red, green, blue, etc. SMD 5050 is equipped with three chips. The three chips can be all white, all red (or green, blue), and also can be three different colors(red, green, and blue), the commonly referred to as 5050 RGB LED.

Brightness. SMD 5050 LED usually has the power 0.2W, while SMD 2835 can have 0.1W, 0.2W and 0.5W. The working voltage of the two LEDs is the same, as most ordinary LEDs, only 2.7-3.3V.

In short, both SMD 5050 and 2835 are very popular LED packages. SMD 2835 LED is suitable for white and single-color light strips, and the SMD 5050 is suitable for white, single-colored, or RGB light strips. If under the same power level, their brightness levels are about the same.
